Academic Program

The Academy’s winter program Arbitration Rules in Practice is an innovative online program on international commercial arbitration. Jointly organized by the Vienna International Arbitral Centre, the Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners, the Austrian Arbitration Association and the Sommerhochschule of the University of Vienna, this program has been specifically devised for participants with prior experience in the area of international arbitration.

It addresses the following groups of participants:

  • young practitioners (in particular junior associates/RechtsanwaltsanwärterInnen) working in the field of dispute resolution
  • graduate students specializing in arbitration

Professor Paul Oberhammer (Vienna/London/St. Gallen) acts as academic director of the Austrian Arbitration Academy, while Dr. Alice Fremuth-Wolf co-directs the Arbitration Rules in Practice program representing the VIAC.
The sessions will be taught by renowned international arbitration practitioners from both the bar and academia.

The program consists of four afternoon sessions as well as online participation on the Vienna Arbitration Day, Austria’s largest arbitration conference.
All sessions will be conducted online and will be accessible to all registered participants for a 24-hour time frame.
In addition, participants have the option of attending the last session at the Vienna International Arbitral Centre in person. For all those who cannot participate in person, the session will be accessible online.
